Round 1 2016

The first round of Season 2016 saw Russell Vale United face the bye, FC against Berocca’s and new boys the Vale Pups away to Jamberoo Rams.

The trip to Jamberoo was well worth it for the Vale Pups in their first competitive match, with the boys getting up 9-1. The Faxster providing four assists. Unfortunately, that’s the extent of the match report for the Vale Pups, but we hope to have more coverage for the rest of the season.

Back at Cawley Park, FC faced Berocca’s who are always tough to beat. The weather was a bit on the hot side and the grass was quite long and dense, so the game was a bit scrappy at times (to be charitable).

Despite the weight of possession, FC were unable to make a dent on the scoreboard… although the posts certainly received at least four new dents from FC strikes. The teams went into the half time break still locked at 0-0.

As the second half started, FC again had all the ball in the opposition half without making it count. After about 10 minutes though, a great ball from halfway by Neil found Mikey in clear air and he took the ball into the box and into the back of the net.

The remainder of the game played out much like the first half, with FC hitting the post a further three times. Unfortunately, that was the extent of the goal scoring and the match finished 1-0. A valuable win.
